5 Disney Songs That Motivate Me Until Now

July 27, 2019

Have you ever listed to AJR's song 'Turning Out'? Some of the lyrics say:

"Maybe I'm stuck on what I see on TV
I grew up on Disney
But this don't feel like Disney"

I am kind of person who loves music so much but cannot sing and/or play any musical instruments. Hence, I always adore someone who could easily move their fingers on any instruments and sing 'decently'.

As a true music listener, I might probably be the last person who carries my red iPod everywhere I go. I have hundreds of songs that I keep since I was in elementary school. I tend to listen to songs depending on my current mood. When there is a song that could really 'match' my mood, I could listen to that song on repeat all day until my mood changes.

It is a lie if you never know or listen to Disney soundtrack songs as you've probably have watched the movies when you were young. However, I did not really understand what the lyrics mean until I grew and became an adult, and have the situation that relates to the song. Okay, that might sound dramatic but well, that's the truth.

Here are 5 Disney songs which adults could use as motivation and comfort during hard situations. These songs have helped me go through difficult times when I had to leave apart from my family and closest friends for study and work.

I Can Go The Distance by Michael Bolton from HERCULES

I used this song as my motivation when I was getting homesick while in Munich for my student exchange program. I never felt so lonely while living overseas as much as I did in that town. Just like the movie 'Lost in Translation'. But the song somehow reminded me to keep going and just embrace the difficult times; as we will someday reap the results.

For me the lyrics are just so strong and really fit for people who have a huge ambition of their dream but are still in the middle of finding the way. They might struggle but they do not want to give up but keep on going.

I have often dreamed of a far off place
Where a hero's welcome would be waiting for me
Where the crowds would cheer, when they see my face
And a voice keeps saying this is where I'm meant to be
I'll be there someday, I can go the distance
I will find my way if I can be strong
I know every mile would be worth my while
When I go the distance, I'll be right where I belong

I still listen to this song everything I doubt my path and question: "where should we actually go?", "are we on the right path?" And then Michael Bolton would say, "We don't know, but let's keep on going."

You'll Be in My Heart by Phil Collins from TARZAN

When destiny calls you, you must be strong, I may not be with you but you got to hold on. They'll see in time, I know. We'll show them together...

Remember the scene when the mother gorilla sang this song to the baby? I related to this song at most while I got sick while still living and working out of town from my family. When you are not in your fit condition, the one and only person who can cure you from the heart is your mom. I always remember my mom who always tells me to be strong no matter what. The lyrics are just so beautiful and calming.

When You Wish Upon A Star by Louis Armstrong from PINOCCHIO

All you dreams will always come true when you wish and pray for it. Your mind and your heart must align with those dreams. This song was written 1939 and then, in 2000s, we heard of a life-changing concept called THE SECRET. I believe this song is all about it. When you want something so badly, you have to pray, believe and feel as if it already comes true.

When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires
Will come to you
If your heart is in your dream
No request is too extreme

How Far I'll Go by Alessia Cara from MOANA

You may laugh at me but this song is somehow telling my feeling after I moved back to Jakarta after living in Bali for 1.5 years. I was the one who decided to come back to my hometown but somehow my heart was left in the island. Long story short, one year later, I got a chance to come back to Bali. Although my dad preferred me to stay but I went and lived there for another 5 months until I finally had to return back to Jakarta again.

But this song is definitely something for me. The lyrics that say,  "everybody on this island, seems so happy on this island", it really pictures Bali.

See the line where the sky meets the sea? It calls me
And no one knows, how far it goes
If the wind in my sail on the sea stays behind me
One day I'll know, if I go there's just no telling how far I'll go

Part of Your World by Jodi Benson from LITTLE MERMAID

I've got gadgets and gizmos aplenty
I've got whozits and whatzits galore
You want thingamabobs? I got twenty
But who cares? No big deal
I want more
I want to be where the people are
I want to see, want to see 'em dancin'

I believe everybody can relate to this song. When you actually have had all you want, but they are apparently not something that you actually need. Others think your life is perfect and they want to have a live like yours but in fact, you still have that one missing piece in your heart.
